On 18 September 2024, about 60 second-year students at Saitama Prefectural Urawa High School visited the University of Tokyo.
The lecture by Dean Kato was held after visits to the research laboratories of the faculty members and a tour of the campus. The topics were about the attractiveness of the Faculty of Engineering at UTokyo and one of the world-leading research institutions, etc., and the students were seen listening keenly and taking notes. Although it was conducted in a rather short time, the students nodded along to the interesting story, which included his own experience of taking an exam; it was a fun lecture that even made people laugh out loud. We received many messages of gratitude from students who said they wanted to become a researcher like Dean Kato.
The lecture was followed by an informal gathering with the students at the UTokyo who graduated from the Saitama Prefectural Urawa High School. All these made the day meaningful.
