On 16 July 2024, 320 second-year high school students attended the lecture.
Dean Kato explained in detail how engineering contributes to our daily lives and to the world.
There were comments from participants such as "I had already been planning to enrol in the Faculty of Engineering, and now I am even more excited about it after learning how many fields in engineering are solving social issues", "Listening to Dean Kato’s talk has broadened my understanding of the world.  It was very meaningful to be introduced to research that opens up a new world, and I also felt like I had a dream for the future", and from a student who wants to study humanities, "I was worried about the future, but now I know that engineering will build a better future".  We were able to convey the attractiveness of engineering research to a lot of students.
After the lecture, individual questions continued, and many students expressed their gratitude to Dean Kato who gave each student words of encouragement, which increased their interest in UTokyo and motivated them to realize their future career paths. One student said, "I want to enter the University of Tokyo and express my gratitude directly to Dean Kato".
