School of Engineering and IST’s New Year’s event was held

On 5 January 2024, the School of Engineering and IST’s New Year’s event was held.

    2. New Year’s greeting by Yasuhiro Kato, Dean, School of Engineering
    3. New Year’s greeting by Reiji Suda, Dean, Graduate School of Information Science and Technology
    4. New Year’s greeting by Akira Sakurai, General Manager, Administrative Department, School of Engineering, Graduate School of Information Science and Technology

 

In each greeting, they first expressed their deepest condolences and their heartfelt sympathy to the survivors of the earthquake in the Noto region of Ishikawa Prefecture. Dean Kato then spoke about the importance of the spirit of recovery and preparation for such disasters, and how UTokyo would respond and play a significant role if such an earthquake were to occur in the Kanto region.

Dean Reiji Suda spoke about the world situation surrounding India from the perspective of the population growth in India, while introducing a poem by Rabindranath Tagore, an Indian poet who has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Last, General Manager Akira Sakurai, Administrative Department, School of Engineering, Graduate School of Information Science and Technology reported that he had started learning French last autumn and passed an exam; spoke about the importance of multilingualism in administrative work, which he had experienced in his work from the past to the present; and encouraged those gathered to improve their language skills and to communicate actively.

All the speeches were very interesting, and the attendees nodded and smiled in the friendly atmosphere.
