Hiroshi YAMAGISHI,Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology,won the Springer Poster prize,A prize awarded by Springer to a significant poster presenter at the 10th International Symposium on Macrocyclic and Supramolecular Chemistry.
Self-assembly is a promising method to build desired nanostructures by spontaneous assembly of well-designed molecules. This approach enables us to construct fine structures that we cannot reach by conventional top-down processing. Recently, we reported that a newly synthesized organic molecule, upon being mixed with metal ions, self-assembles into nanotubes with a diameter of 7.5 nm. Here, we found that constituent C10-symmetric macrocycles in the nanotubes stack one-handed helically on top of each other. A nanotube with either right- or left-handed helix is preferentially formed in the presence of an enantiomerically pure chiral reagent.
