<About awarded research>

Painting is one of the key technologies which is utilized for almost all products used in our daily lives. However, in the painting processes, emissions of Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) are considered as a challenge, and for year 2012, it is estimated that the printing industry is responsible for 39% of VOC emissions in Japan. Therefore, more environmentally conscious design and improvement of the printing processes are required.In this study, I constructed a model of materials emissions in the printing processes by considering operation conditions, used painting materials and facility settings, and revealed the relation between the operating condition and the environmental impacts such as VOC or CO2 emissions by applying Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology.As a result, it has become possible to assess the effects of introducing improvement technologies quantitatively, and to support environmentally conscious design of printing processes.
