On 4th September 2020, Masafumi Ozeki (M2), Department of Nuclear Engineering and Management, won Annual award at 17th PASJ2020.

<Name of Award and short explanation about the award>

Awards aimed at encouraging students and young researchers in the early stages of research activities and research life.

<About awarded reserch>
Title:Study of Ra-225 / Ac-225 production using an electron linac

Summary:The radiopharmaceutical 225Ac-PSMA-617 is a treatment for prostate cancer using Ac-225, and is expected as a new treatment method. In order to promote clinical research in Japan, I conducted a basic study of the Ac-225 manufacturing method using electronic linac. When a Ra-226 target is irradiated with γ-rays, Ra-225 is produced by the 226Ra(γ,n)225Ra reaction. Ac-225 can be obtained by natural decay from Ra-225. This time, the yield of Ac-225 and the heat of the Ra-226 target during irradiation were calculated.

<Your impression & future>
Thanks to the great support of around me, I received an honorable award.
In the future, I will proceed with the Ac-225 producing experiment at ELPH.
