<About  the Research>

It is demanded to realize extremely high or low thermal conductivity and high thermoelectric conversion for the development of thermal management. Although heat is easily dissipated and hard to be controlled, structural controls in the micro-nano scale has enabled us to realize such the controls. In order for increasing controllability of heat, it is necessary to deeply understand a microscopic heat transfer. We have so far developed first-principles-based heat conduction analysis method and succeeded in not only qualitatively evaluating thermal conductivity of a material attributed to lattice vibration (phonon) but obtaining a structural design for improving thermoelectric energy conversion efficiency.
In the heat conduction control utilizing wave nature of phonons such as interference and resonance, we have developed a hybrid method composed of first principles, molecular simulation, and machine learning and proposed a novel thermal control method in terms of spectral heat transfer theory. Furthermore, since thermal rectification, switching, and cloaking have bene recently required, we have been trying to realize these novel thermal properties by using the channels of interactions of phonon with other carriers such as electron, photon, and spin.

<Future aspirations>
I would like to establish a novel thermal control field and develop a new research area with laboratory members and collaborators.
