On 7th December 2015, Dr. Hiromitsu Fujii, Associate Professor Atsushi Yamashita, ProfessorHajime Asama, Department of Precision Engineering, wins a Best Paper award at The 6th International Conference on Advanced Mechatronics.

The award is provided to the authors of the best paper of ICAM2015 which is the only international conference exclusively sponsored and organized by the Robotics & Mechatronics Division of the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers.

<About awarded research>

Our study deals with an automation of social infrastructures inspection. We particularly focus on the hammering test which is a kind of acoustic diagnosis methods. In the awarded paper, we proposed an automated diagnosis algorithm using hammering test. Our method can conduct diagnosis online, and can visualize the defective parts using some sound and image processing techniques. And we integrated the methods into a diagnostic system and evaluated its validity in experiments by concrete test pieces.

<Comments>

It is our pleasure to have this honorable award. We intend to continue to develop the diagnosis system hoping that our results will contribute to actual sites such as concrete tunnel inspection.
