Resources for critical metals including rare-earth elements, which support Japan's leading-edge industries, have been threatened by unstable supplies due to resource nationalism in producing countries. We are conducting research to elucidate the formation mechanisms of these critical metal resources in order to contribute to the resource security of Japan. In particular, we are focusing on marine mineral resources and space resources as frontier resources for the next generation, aiming to make a significant contribution to the future of Japanese industry. The elucidation of the genesis of resources not only provides an effective guide for resource exploration, but also leads to the elucidation of the global geochemical cycles and environmental changes throughout the 4.6 billion years of Earth's history, as well as the mechanism of global warming.
