<About awarded research>

 Liposome is a promising bilayer microcapsule in the field of drug delivery into target tissue for its high biocompatibility. However, there has been an obstacle of efficient delivery into the deeper tissues. In this research, we aim at designing a novel “phantom” carrier capable of free permeation through the cytoplasmic membrane and drug delivery into a deep tissue. In order to achieve cell-permeability, multiple guanidine moieties, which has high affinity with cell membrane, are incorporated into the surface of phantom liposome. Besides, a photo reactive functional group is also appended to the liposome, which enables selective fixation of the carrier onto the target location. We are trying to optimize the composition of phantom liposome for practical applications including cancer therapy.
