On 4th September 2018, Yuki Mori (Major MSc student), Department of Nuclear Engineering and Management, received Best Student Presentation Award from the 53rd SPTJ Technical Conference.
It was given for the superior presentation by student at this symposium.

●About awarded research
Gas-solid flow is appeared in various powder processing machine. Because it shows complex phenomena, numerical simulations are often performed. DEM-CFD method, one of the Eulerian-Lagrangian approach, is often used for numerical simulation of gas-solid flow. Although this method is well established, when we apply this method to large-scale gas-solid flow, it has some problems that enormous number of particles, complex shaped geometry, and numerical instability for high drag-force. Then, to solve these problems, we developed new implicit algorithm for drag force, and combine this algorithm with coarse grain model, which overcome the problem of number of particles, and advanced DEM-CFD method, which can calculate complex shaped wall effectively. This combined method, named integrated DEM-CFD, enable us to calculate large-scale gas-solid fluidized bed stably and accurately. In addition, to validate this method, we performed numerical simulation and experiment of die-filling system and circulating fluidized bed under comparable conditions.

It is my great honor to win this award. I really thank Prof. Mikio Sakai for his excellent supervision, and I also thank all members of my laboratory for their advice to my presentation. I will keep researching hard and try to improve our researches.
