"21st Century COE Program" was established in 2002 to cultivate a competitive academic environment among Japanese universities by giving targeted support to the creation of world-standard research and education bases (centers of excellence). In FY 2002 2 projects and in FY 2003 3 projects were adopted at the School of Engineering respectively.
"The Global COE Program" is a project that has inherited the fundamental concepts of the 21st Century COE Program and is given targeted support for forming internationally excellent education and research centers by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Applications for this program will be accepted in each field from FY2007 to FY2011. In FY2007 2 projects and FY2008 4 projects were adopted at the School of Engineering respectively.
